Job Summary
Seeking a skilled Registered Nurse for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide high-quality, patient-centered postoperative care. The RN will assess and monitor patients after anesthesia, collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams, perform therapeutic interventions, and document care in accordance with evidence-based practice and facility policies.
Key Responsibilities
Assess patients’ physiological status in the immediate postoperative period and provide continuous monitoring.
Implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
Manage airway, pain, hemodynamic stability, and other immediate post-op needs.
Assist physicians and anesthesia providers with patient care as required.
Administer medications and treatments per orders and protocols (including emergent interventions).
Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record.
Provide patient and family education regarding postoperative care, discharge criteria, and follow-up.
Maintain a safe, efficient, and collaborative care environment across PACU, Pre-Op, and ICU/step-down as needed.
Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Current NJ RN license (or multi-state compact RN).
Minimum 2+ years recent critical care and/or PACU experience.
Telemetry experience and current Telemetry certification.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications. PALS required.
ASN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or equivalent.
Demonstrated competency in critical post-anesthesia nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years PACU experience.
BSN preferred.
