Job Title: Medical Office Assistant
Location: Manhattan, NY, 10019
Shift Time: 7 AM and 6 PM (e.g., 7-3, 8-4, 9-5, 10-6), Monday through Friday.
Job Summary:
The Medical Office Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons. This role assists in patient care and ensures smooth operations within the medical office, contributing to high-quality patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with patient care duties, which may include performing venipuncture, EKGs, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting with walking, transferring, and dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing patients for exams.
Assist physicians during procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls to provide pertinent information.
Fulfill clerical tasks, such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referrals. Ensure charts and forms are completed and filed appropriately, using either an electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually.
Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
Inventory, order, and re-stock medical supplies as needed.
Set up examination rooms and instruments following sterilization protocols and infection control policies.
Maintain logging systems for medication refrigeration, point of care testing, sterilization, and other processes.
Dispose of expired medications and medical supplies per institutional policy.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
Follow personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to blood, infectious fluids, chemicals, and other hazards.
Assist with maintaining medical charts, including filing operative reports, test results, and home care forms.
Schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, prepare charts, and complete pre-admissions and consent forms.
Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
Perform appointment scheduling, patient registration, and update demographic and insurance information.
Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
Verify and update insurance information using internal systems or web sources.
Perform and verify pre-certifications for procedures as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
3 years of experience as a medical assistant.
Relevant medical office or phlebotomy experience is desirable.
Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited school.
Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Languages:
English (speak, read, write).
Schedule:
Hours per week: 37.5 (7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week)
Shifts: Varying shifts between 7 AM and 6 PM (e.g., 7-3, 8-4, 9-5, 10-6), Monday through Friday. Must be available for all shifts as assigned.
OBGYN experience required.
