Clinical Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in the cardiovascular operating room, maintain strict sterile technique, and support surgeons and RNs to ensure safe, high-quality surgical care.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain the sterile field in accordance with hospital policy and AORN Standards.
Set up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and equipment for cardiovascular procedures.
Perform scrub technician duties across all surgical specialties (CVOR required).
Pass instruments and sterile supplies during procedures.
Hold retractors, cut sutures, and assist with sponge/needle/instrument counts.
Prepare, label, and handle medications under the direction of the RN and surgeon.
Manage surgical specimens for laboratory analysis.
Ensure case-specific instruments and equipment are available per surgeon preference cards.
Assist with patient transport, positioning, and transfer to recovery.
Operate sterilizers, suction, lights, and other OR equipment as needed.
Assist with OR turnover and restocking.
Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and safety at all times.
Participate in staff meetings and educational programs.
Support orientation of new OR staff as needed.
Collaborate with RNs to maintain specialty instrumentation and equipment.
Required Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited civilian or military Operating Room Technician/Surgical Technician program.
Certification through an NCCA-accredited agency recognized by the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists (Certification must be maintained).
Current BLS Certification.
CVOR experience required.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
