Position Overview
A healthcare facility in Long Beach, California is seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity. The technician will be responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and infection control standards.
Responsibilities
Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
Disassemble and reassemble complex surgical instruments according to manufacturer guidelines
Assemble and package instrument trays accurately for surgical procedures
Operate washers, sterilizers, autoclaves, and related processing equipment safely and efficiently
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage
Document missing, damaged, or malfunctioning equipment
Maintain sterilization records, inventory levels, and processing documentation
Follow infection control protocols, ANSI/AAMI standards, and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs)
Collaborate effectively with operations, distribution staff, and healthcare teams
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician required (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years of hands-on sterile processing experience required
Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization methods, and infection control practices required
Experience operating washer disinfectors, autoclaves, and sterilization equipment required
Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and IFUs preferred
Skills & Experience
