Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Electrophysiology (EP) Lab provides specialized nursing care utilizing advanced clinical knowledge, judgment, and technical skills. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care based on principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences.
Care is delivered through a collaborative, team-based model that emphasizes partnership with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Nursing practice is culturally competent, age-specific, and aligned with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics and the applicable Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Unit Description – EP Lab
The Electrophysiology Lab is a high-acuity procedural unit with five (5) procedure rooms, staffed by experienced Registered Nurses with critical care backgrounds and skilled radiology technicians. The lab utilizes state-of-the-art technology for the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac rhythm disorders.
Procedures performed include:
Permanent pacemaker implantation
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs)
Implantable loop recorders
Catheter ablations for atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, and convergent ablations
Left atrial appendage occlusion procedures
Extraction of chronic cardiac devices
Tilt table studies and autonomic disorder testing
The unit actively participates in clinical research related to arrhythmia management. Staff are trained to care for patients across all acuity levels, including ICU patients, ventricular assist device (VAD) patients, and post-cardiac surgery patients.
Patient safety, quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction are top priorities. The EP Lab operates in a fast-paced environment and uses a team-based nursing approach in collaboration with EP physicians, anesthesia providers, and ancillary departments.
