Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Critical Care / Neuro Diagnostics

Location: Rochester, NY

Contract Length: 13 Weeks

Shift: 3x12 Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced respiratory and critical care support for adult patients in ICU, ED, and acute care settings. This role focuses on ventilator management, airway support, and emergency respiratory interventions, ensuring safe and effective respiratory therapy for high-acuity patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Respiratory Therapist License (must be in hand; no exceptions)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • Minimum 1 year recent RRT experience required
  • EPIC EMR proficiency required
  • Experience in ICU and Emergency Department respiratory care required

Required Clinical Skills

  • Adult critical care respiratory therapy
  • Emergency airway management and intubation assist
  • Extubation support and ventilator weaning
  • Oral/nasal airway placement and suctioning
  • Tracheostomy care and management
  • Mechanical ventilation management (ETT, trach, T-piece, ventilator support)
  • CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Bag-mask ventilation
  • ABG sampling
  • Pulmonary hygiene and respiratory assessment
  • Troubleshooting ventilator alarms (high pressure alarms, system alerts)
  • Sputum collection and airway clearance procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory support in ICU and ED settings
  • Manage mechanical ventilators and oxygenation systems
  • Assist in intubation, extubation, and airway stabilization
  • Perform ABG sampling and respiratory diagnostics
  • Monitor patient respiratory status and adjust therapy accordingly
  • Respond to emergency airway and respiratory events
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain documentation in EPIC
