Location: New York, NY 10029
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 08:00 AM - 04:00 PM

Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support surgical teams in a fast-paced operating room environment. The O.R. Technician will assist surgeons, nurses, and perioperative staff by maintaining sterile technique, preparing surgical instruments and supplies, and ensuring safe and efficient surgical procedures.

The ideal candidate will possess strong operating room knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in high-acuity surgical settings.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Scrub & Sterile Field Support

  • Perform scrub duties according to established surgical and aseptic protocols
  • Maintain sterile technique throughout all procedures
  • Perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures
  • Prepare sterile instrument tables and surgical supplies based on procedure requirements
  • Assist with patient draping and operative field preparation
  • Anticipate surgeon needs for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies during procedures
  • Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse
  • Report count discrepancies immediately according to policy
  • Identify contamination risks and implement corrective action when necessary
  • Assist with specimen handling, labeling, and transport per facility guidelines
  • Apply dressings and assist with securing drainage systems
  • Support patient transfers using approved perioperative transfer equipment
  • Decontaminate instruments, reusable supplies, and equipment after procedures
  • Prepare operating rooms for subsequent surgical cases

Circulating & Operative Support

  • Assist the Registered Nurse with circulating responsibilities as directed
  • Assemble and prepare surgical supplies and specialized equipment
  • Assist with patient positioning and operating table adjustments
  • Support patient safety through proper positioning, restraint application, and sterile environment maintenance
  • Monitor operating room traffic and maintain aseptic standards
  • Assist with operative documentation and count records accurately
  • Support patient transfer to the recovery area following procedures
  • Maintain organized operating room and sterile storage areas

Medication & Safety Support

  • Assist with preparation of medications and sterile solutions under RN supervision
  • Properly label medications, syringes, cups, and basins according to facility policy
  • Verbally verify medication name, dosage, concentration, and route during procedures
  • Retain medication vials and ampoules until patient discharge from the operating room
  • Adhere to OSHA, infection control, and facility safety guidelines
  • Utilize appropriate PPE throughout all procedures

Operational Responsibilities

  • Assist with transporting patients to and from the surgical suite
  • Report instrumentation, equipment, or supply concerns to leadership
  • Assist with maintaining and updating surgical preference cards
  • Support operational efficiency and patient-centered care initiatives

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited CST training program required
  • Coursework in operating room technology, biology, chemistry, or related sciences preferred

Experience

  • Previous operating room experience preferred
  • Experience in a surgical or perioperative environment highly desirable

Certifications

  • CST Certification required
  • BLS Certification (AHA) required
  • OR Technician Certification required
