Job Title: Programmer – Advanced (Mainframe)

Duration: 9 Months

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Programmer (Advanced level) to support mission-critical systems within a large public-sector healthcare environment. This role involves working on legacy applications, implementing enhancements, and supporting testing cycles.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL-based mainframe systems, strong debugging skills, and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal application teams to implement coding changes in COBOL and ADS programs
  • Work with both IDMS Network and IDMS Relational databases
  • Analyze technical and design specifications to develop solutions
  • Perform debugging, unit testing, and integration testing
  • Support QA, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and external testing cycles by resolving defects
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with distributed teams and external vendors
  • Participate in on-call support rotation

Required Technical Skills

Core Mainframe Expertise

  • 10+ years of experience with Mainframe systems
  • 10+ years of experience with MVS COBOL
  • 10+ years of experience with JCL (Job Control Language)
  • 10+ years of experience with IDMS (Network Database)

Additional Core Technologies

  • 7+ years of experience with CA-ADS
  • 5+ years of experience with Changeman
  • 5+ years of experience with CICS
  • 5+ years of experience with VSAM

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SAS
  • Familiarity with File-AID
  • Knowledge of Medicaid or Medicare claims processing systems
  • Experience with MQ (Messaging Queues)
  • Exposure to Endevor
  • Experience with Xpeditor

  • Comfortable working in production support and on-call environments
