Job Title: Clinical Resource Nurse – Med/Surg

Position Overview

The Clinical Resource Nurse serves as a key clinical support and educational resource for nursing staff within the Med/Surg department. This role focuses on enhancing clinical practice, mentoring staff, improving patient care quality, and promoting evidence-based nursing standards.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Education

  • Support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing education for nursing staff
  • Develop and implement staff training and educational programs
  • Provide guidance on complex patient care, medication administration, and treatment plans
  • Serve as a mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff

Quality Improvement & Leadership

  • Identify gaps in clinical practice using data analysis
  • Develop and implement improvement initiatives to enhance nursing performance
  • Conduct quality audits and report findings
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards

Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as a liaison between nursing staff and leadership
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support evidence-based care delivery
  • Communicate concerns and provide feedback to leadership
  • Promote adoption of new clinical processes and innovations

Patient Care & Advocacy

  • Advocate for patients and their families
  • Support safe, ethical, and high-quality patient care
  • Assist with complex clinical decision-making and procedures

Qualifications

Education

  • Nursing degree required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience in acute care preferred

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active, unrestricted RN license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Clinical and high-risk competency completion within required timeframe

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage acutely ill patients and complex care situations
  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement
  • Proficiency in EHR systems and Microsoft Office tools

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Acute care hospital setting
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and biohazards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Requires prolonged standing, walking, and physical activity
  • May require flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays
