Position Title: Mental Therapy Aide

Location: Syracuse, New York
Duration: 15 Weeks
Setting: Psychiatric / Behavioral Health


Schedule

  • Day Shift
  • 2 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 AM – 07:30 PM)
  • 2 x 8-hour shifts (07:00 AM – 03:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend required

Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is a compassionate and dependable Mental Therapy Aide to support patients in a psychiatric care setting. This role involves assisting with both direct and indirect patient care while maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care under nursing supervision
  • Monitor and record vital signs accurately
  • Assist with patient admissions, documentation, and orientation to unit routines
  • Support physical examinations and collect specimens as needed
  • Monitor and document patient intake and output
  • Assist patients with hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Transport patients within the facility as required
  • Build therapeutic relationships and engage patients in structured activities
  • Intervene in crisis situations and report any changes in patient condition
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment
  • Perform routine safety checks during assigned shifts
  • Communicate patient updates effectively to nursing staff

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with psychiatric or behavioral health patients (preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to respond effectively in high-pressure or crisis situations

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment health clearance
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends
  • Commitment to patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality
