Job Title: Surgical Assistant
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Job Type: Contract (Travel/Local)
Duration: 13 Weeks

Schedule:

  • Shift: Day Shift
  • Schedule Options: 4x10s or 5x8s (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring efficiency, safety, and optimal patient outcomes. This role involves assisting with intraoperative tasks, maintaining a sterile field, and supporting the surgical team throughout procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient positioning to ensure optimal surgical exposure
  • Provide clear visualization of the operative field using retractors, suction, and irrigation
  • Support hemostasis and apply appropriate surgical techniques
  • Handle sutures and perform subcutaneous and skin closures as directed
  • Apply wound dressings and assist with securing drainage systems
  • Assist with tissue harvesting procedures (vein, artery, tendon, bone, skin) as needed
  • Maintain sterile technique and adhere to all surgical protocols
  • Assist in major surgical procedures under direct supervision
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to ensure surgeon access and patient safety
  • Stay current with evolving surgical techniques and technologies
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and the surgical team

Required Education

  • Associate’s degree in Surgical Assisting OR completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Basic Life Support (BLS – American Heart Association)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Assistant (4+ years preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and technical skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as NSAA, CFA (AST), NCCPA (AAPA), or RNFA (NASC)
  • Experience with robotic and orthopedic surgical procedures
  • Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience
