Position Overview

"Navitas Partners, LLC" is seeking a detail-oriented GIS Specialist to support the maintenance and accuracy of municipal geographic data. This role involves working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to review, update, and validate spatial data, ensuring alignment with real-world conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of GIS concepts, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with mapping software and data systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and update GIS layers to ensure data accuracy and completeness
  • Compare GIS linework (e.g., street curb lines) with aerial imagery to identify discrepancies
  • Edit and maintain attribute data, including names and classifications
  • Perform data entry, validation, and data cleanup activities
  • Verify spatial data against source records and imagery
  • Maintain proper documentation and adhere to established data standards
  • Support ongoing efforts to improve data quality and consistency
  • Work independently after training while maintaining high accuracy and reliability

Required Education

Currently pursuing or completed coursework in one of the following fields:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Geography
  • Environmental Science
  • Earth Science
  • Urban Planning
  • Civil Engineering Technology
  • Geomatics or Surveying Technology

Preferred Education

  • Completion of at least one introductory GIS course
  • Enrollment in a GIS certificate or associate degree program

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of GIS concepts and tools
  • Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools
  • Strong data entry and data validation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to organize and manage data effectively

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to GPS data collection
  • Experience editing GIS features (points, lines, polygons)
  • Understanding of data quality control processes
  • Familiarity with metadata documentation
  • Knowledge of file organization and naming conventions

Required Experience

Basic understanding of:

  • Map projections
  • GIS layers and attribute tables
  • Spatial data formats
