Job Title: Correctional Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Las Animas, CO
Assignment Type: Contract
Duration: 8 Weeks (Possibility of Extension)
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week
Shift: Night Shift

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional healthcare setting. The RN will be responsible for delivering patient-centered care, administering medications, supporting clinical procedures, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations while maintaining safety and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct nursing care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by Licensed Independent Providers
• Assist providers during examinations and medical procedures
• Conduct sick calls, prepare patient lists, and ensure readiness of examination areas
• Monitor and assess inmates/residents for illness or injury and initiate appropriate care or referrals
• Respond to medical emergencies and obtain treatment orders as needed
• Supervise and guide LPNs and unlicensed medical staff
• Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
• Ensure confidentiality and security of all medical records
• Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and coordinate appropriate care transitions
• Conduct audits related to pharmacy use and ensure compliance with regulations
• Observe and document patient behavior and health status
• Maintain safety by identifying and managing potential contraband risks in medical areas
• Provide patient education and health counseling
• Assist with preparation of reports, logs, and documentation
• Participate in accreditation and quality improvement activities
• Respond to legal and regulatory requirements, including documentation and court-related processes if needed
• Maintain effective communication with staff, providers, and external agencies

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of professional RN experience
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma or Degree)
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of employment
• Valid Driver’s License
• Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work effectively in a structured and secure environment
