Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department provides comprehensive, patient-centered care within the full scope of nursing practice. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions. The RN collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, addressing physical, emotional, and psychological needs
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individualized patient care plans
  • Monitor patient conditions, collect data, and evaluate outcomes
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions
  • Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care

Charge Nurse Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient flow and staff assignments within the Emergency Department
  • Receive and manage pre-arrival reports from EMS and external partners
  • Collaborate with triage nurses to manage incoming patients
  • Coordinate admissions and bed assignments with hospital leadership
  • Work closely with providers, nursing staff, ED technicians, and support personnel
  • Utilize strong communication, time management, and conflict resolution skills

Department Overview

  • Multi-bed Emergency Department with monitored beds and dedicated treatment areas
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 4:1 to 5:1 based on acuity
  • Interdisciplinary support including case management, social work, and mental health services
  • Staff includes physicians, physician assistants, and trained ED technicians
  • Accredited chest pain center and designated primary stroke center

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience (required)
  • Active State RN License
  • All required certifications must be current (e.g., BLS, ACLS, etc.)
