Job Title: Outpatient Medical Coder (Neurology / Neurosurgery)

Location: Houston, TX 77024
Contract Duration: 12 Weeks
Shift: Day (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Pay Rate: $32/hour


Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery to support accurate coding, billing, and compliance processes. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal reimbursement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifier codes

  • Ensure compliance with official coding guidelines and regulatory requirements

  • Abstract and enter data accurately for billing and reporting purposes

  • Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy

  • Adhere to ethical coding standards and organizational policies

  • Support quality improvement and coding accuracy initiatives

  • Mentor and assist less experienced coders when needed


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

  • Minimum 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience

  • Ability to code for Neurology providers

  • Strong knowledge of coding guidelines, compliance, and reimbursement methodologies

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills


Required Certifications (One of the Following):

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

  • Certified Medical Coder (CMC)

  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in a medical-related field

  • Experience in outpatient Neurosurgery coding

  • Experience with Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding

  • Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record system


Key Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Knowledge of APC reimbursement methodologies

  • Ability to interpret clinical documentation and apply coding standards

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
