The Electroencephalography (EEG) Technician is responsible for performing a variety of neurophysiology diagnostic procedures to support neurological and epilepsy care programs. This role involves monitoring brain activity using specialized equipment, recording and processing electrophysiological data, and assisting neurologists in diagnosing neurological conditions.
The EEG Technician works with both adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, including epilepsy monitoring units (EMU), intensive care units (ICU), and operating rooms.
Perform EEG studies and neurophysiology monitoring procedures according to established clinical protocols.
Obtain patient medical history, including seizure history and contraindications prior to testing.
Educate patients and families about EEG procedures and ensure patient comfort throughout the process.
Apply and manage various EEG electrodes and monitoring equipment.
Monitor patients continuously during procedures and report seizure activity or abnormal findings to clinical staff.
Record and analyze electrophysiological data, making adjustments to equipment as needed to ensure accurate recordings.
Identify artifacts and perform activation procedures to support accurate neurological evaluation.
Collaborate with neurologists and neurosurgeons during diagnostic procedures in laboratories, operating rooms, or patient care units.
Maintain and troubleshoot EEG monitoring equipment and related network systems.
Provide training and support to staff members regarding neurophysiology monitoring procedures.
Ensure accurate documentation and data preparation for physician review and reporting.
Deliver patient-centered care tailored to diverse patient populations and communication needs.
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of an accredited EEG training program, or minimum two years of EEG experience in lieu of formal training.
Minimum one year of EEG experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Ability to perform EEG monitoring for adult and pediatric patients.
Strong technical and observational skills for identifying abnormal neurological activity.
Experience with Evoked Potentials and Nerve Conduction studies.
Familiarity with Natus and Nihon Kohden EEG systems.
Prior experience working in Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMU) or critical care environments.
ABRET Certification (EEG) or in process of obtaining ABRET registration.
