Job Summary

The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist performs CT imaging procedures and related techniques to produce high-quality sectional and three-dimensional images for diagnostic interpretation. The technologist is responsible for preparing patients for imaging procedures, administering contrast when required, and ensuring accurate imaging results while maintaining patient safety and comfort. This role also assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex CT imaging procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images.

  • Review and obtain patient clinical history and ensure proper documentation in imaging systems.

  • Prepare and review contrast questionnaires with patients or family members prior to procedures.

  • Administer contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner according to established protocols.

  • Verify imaging orders and communicate with physicians or radiologists if clarification is required.

  • Ensure appropriate CT protocols are followed for each examination.

  • Evaluate images using the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to ensure diagnostic quality.

  • Gather relevant clinical information from patient records and healthcare providers to ensure accurate imaging protocols.

  • Prepare patients for CT scanning using proper shielding and immobilization techniques.

  • Determine the appropriate type and dosage of contrast media when required.

  • Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients regarding procedures.

  • Perform venipuncture and intravenous (IV) line management in accordance with clinical guidelines.

  • Monitor patients during imaging procedures for any adverse reactions or complications.

  • Provide imaging copies to patients and physicians when requested.

  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols, patient care standards, and departmental policies.

  • Assist with maintaining accurate imaging records and documentation within electronic medical systems.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.

  • ARRT (R) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

  • Valid Diagnostic Radiography License.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).

  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and radiographic positioning techniques.

  • Knowledge of CT imaging systems, software, and hardware operations.

  • Experience using Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).


Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT (CT) certification preferred.

  • At least six months of CT imaging experience preferred.

  • Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or other hospital information systems such as HIS/RIS.
