Role Summary

A public safety communications operation in Washington, DC is seeking experienced Emergency Communications Dispatchers to coordinate police and Fire/EMS response activities. This role operates within a multi-discipline PSAP/ECC environment and requires precision, situational awareness, and the ability to manage multiple radio channels during emergency events.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Dispatch police and Fire/EMS units for emergency and non-emergency incidents using approved dispatch protocols
  • Monitor and track unit status to ensure effective response coordination
  • Operate primary and secondary radio channels while maintaining channel control
  • Utilize backup communication systems during primary system failures
  • Apply proper radio procedures and issue required notifications
  • Assess incident information to determine appropriate emergency resources
  • Relay instructions and updates clearly and accurately
  • Document incidents with complete and accurate information
  • Update event classifications as new information is received

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience as a released Emergency Communications Officer in a multi-discipline PSAP

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure
  • Typing speed of 25 WPM or higher
  • Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations
  • Ability to follow established procedures and instructions
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Experience in two or more preferred: Call Taking, Fire/Rescue Radio Operations, Law Enforcement Radio Operations
  • Willingness to work assigned schedules
  • Compliance with all applicable jurisdictional policies and procedures
