About the Facility

A 368-bed acute care hospital in the Austin market is seeking an experienced emergency services leader to oversee a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Services operation. The organization is part of a large, integrated healthcare system and is known for advanced clinical programs and rapid regional growth.

Key distinctions include:

  • Level II Trauma Center

  • Nationally accredited oncology services

  • Adult transplant and cellular therapy program (regional exclusive)

  • Comprehensive cardiac, stroke, and orthopedic care

  • Full-service maternity and newborn programs

  • Advanced robotic surgery capabilities with academic affiliation

  • Multiple freestanding emergency departments

  • Planned expansion, including a new inpatient tower within approximately three years

This is a fast-paced emergency services environment within a rapidly expanding market.


Emergency Services Scope

Main Campus Emergency Department

  • 48 ED beds plus 9 Fast Track beds

  • Up to 27 additional hallway beds utilized during surge periods

  • Average daily volume: approximately 200–250 patients

  • Level II Trauma designation

  • High stroke and mixed-acuity case volume (approximately 25% lower-acuity cases)

Freestanding Emergency Departments

  • Two operational FSEDs located approximately 20–32 miles from the main campus

    • Site A: Approximately 9–10 patients per day

    • Site B: Approximately 40–50 patients per day with increasing volume

Additional Oversight

  • Inpatient hold unit

  • Planned fourth freestanding emergency department

  • Future satellite hospital (expected to introduce an additional Director-level leadership layer over FSED operations)


Position Summary

The Administrative Director of Emergency Services provides strategic and operational leadership across all emergency care platforms, including the main Emergency Department, freestanding emergency departments, inpatient hold operations, and emergency management functions.

This role is responsible for driving quality outcomes, operational efficiency, staff engagement, growth readiness, and financial performance while ensuring consistent, patient-centered emergency care delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Operations & Quality

  • Identify, assess, and resolve operational challenges across emergency services

  • Ensure compliance with emergency care standards, policies, and regulatory requirements

  • Develop, monitor, and act on quality and performance metrics

  • Advance patient experience and service excellence initiatives

  • Promote evidence-based clinical and operational practices

  • Participate in hospital-wide and interdisciplinary committees

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop direct reports

  • Conduct performance evaluations and manage accountability

  • Identify and support emerging leaders within emergency services

  • Ensure adherence to human resources policies and labor standards

  • Foster collaborative relationships across departments and service lines

Growth & Strategy

  • Support and operationalize expansion initiatives (new tower, additional FSEDs, satellite hospital)

  • Align emergency services growth with broader organizational strategy

  • Strengthen physician engagement and community partnerships

  • Support readiness for future service line expansion and market growth


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or MBA – Required

  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Services experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience

  • Active RN license (Texas or compact eligible)

  • ACLS Certification – Required

  • PALS Certification – Required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification


Compensation & Incentives

Base Salary

  • Midpoint: $156,025

  • Maximum: $175,000

Annual Incentive

  • 17.5% target bonus

  • Up to 26.25% total performance incentive

Relocation Assistance

  • $15,000 lump-sum relocation allowance

  • Up to $10,000 for household goods (homeowners)

  • Renters eligible for reduced relocation assistance
