A large acute care hospital in Central Louisiana is seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to lead and oversee all laboratory services.
This facility provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services and supports a wide range of medical specialties. The organization is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and maintaining excellence in clinical and regulatory standards.
The Laboratory Director is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial leadership of the Clinical Laboratory. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory testing services while promoting a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
The Director provides oversight of laboratory operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and performance improvement initiatives in alignment with organizational goals.
Oversee daily operations of all laboratory departments (e.g., Core Lab, Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, and Phlebotomy as applicable).
Ensure timely and accurate test results to support patient care.
Maintain proper staffing levels and scheduling to meet volume demands.
Monitor workflow efficiency and implement process improvements.
Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and state regulatory standards.
Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and accreditation readiness.
Maintain policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Monitor laboratory performance metrics and implement corrective action plans as needed.
Develop and manage departmental budgets, including labor and capital planning.
Monitor expenses and productivity to ensure financial performance goals are met.
Identify cost-containment opportunities without compromising quality.
Recruit, hire, train, and develop laboratory managers and staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentorship.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Ensure appropriate certification and licensure compliance among staff.
Collaborate with executive leadership and medical staff to expand laboratory services.
Evaluate and implement new testing technologies and instrumentation.
Support outreach and service line development initiatives.
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field (Required)
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (Preferred)
Minimum 3–5 years of progressive laboratory leadership experience in an acute care setting.
Prior Director or Manager-level experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards.
ASCP (or equivalent) certification preferred.
Louisiana state licensure (if applicable) or eligibility to obtain.
