A community-based acute care hospital in Western North Carolina is seeking a Director of Emergency Services to lead its Emergency Department.
This hospital serves a rural and growing community, offering comprehensive medical services including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, and walk-in non-emergency care. The organization is part of a large national healthcare network and is recognized for strong patient safety scores and quality outcomes.

The Director of Emergency Services ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the department’s daily operations, staffing, budgeting, and strategic planning.
This leader fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement while aligning departmental goals with facility objectives. The Director will partner closely with nursing leadership and a newly appointed Medical Director to support departmental growth and performance excellence.
Promote evidence-based practice and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
Monitor patient safety, quality metrics, and performance benchmarks.
Support high-acuity patient care delivery in a community hospital setting.
Drive process improvements to enhance patient throughput and experience.
Oversee daily ED operations, staffing models, and resource allocation.
Lead workforce planning, productivity management, and scheduling oversight.
Support upcoming department expansion initiatives.
Ensure compliance with all accreditation and regulatory standards.
Develop and monitor department budgets.
Evaluate financial performance and address variances.
Identify operational efficiencies and cost-control opportunities.
Support and develop Clinical Nurse Coordinators and frontline staff.
Foster high engagement and low turnover culture.
Provide coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
Collaborate closely with executive leadership and medical staff.
Bachelor’s Degree required (or approved education plan)
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
Master’s Degree preferred
Minimum 1+ year of applicable leadership experience required
3+ years of leadership experience preferred
Very recent Emergency Department Manager experience will be considered
Candidates must demonstrate measurable accomplishments and performance metrics on resume
Active RN license in North Carolina (or compact state eligibility)Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $78,894 – $140,000 annually
Incentive Bonus: 17.5% – 26.25%
Sign-On Bonus: Case-by-case basis
