Position Overview

A leading healthcare revenue cycle organization is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist III to join their team. This is a full-time remote opportunity for professionals based in Richmond, VA.

The ideal candidate will have strong acute care inpatient coding experience and the ability to maintain high productivity and quality standards. This role requires expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, DRG validation, and comprehensive review of hospital inpatient records.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review complete inpatient medical records and assign, sequence, edit, and validate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes

  • Ensure accurate DRG assignment and compliance with coding guidelines

  • Assign and validate Present on Admission (POA) indicators

  • Maintain strict productivity standards (minimum 1.8 charts per hour) and high-quality accuracy metrics

  • Perform coding quality edits and resolve discrepancies

  • Conduct coding audits and address customer inquiries related to coding accuracy

  • Abstract required data elements including physician information, discharge data, and query tracking


Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of recent acute care hospital inpatient DRG coding experience

    • (Experience in LTAC, insurance, or physician billing will not be considered)

  • Active RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification (required)

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or Health Information Technology (HIT) preferred

  • Strong technical knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, DRG methodology, and POA reporting

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting strict productivity and quality benchmarks


Work From Home Requirements

  • Must reside outside of California, Colorado, New York City, and Hawaii

  • Dedicated home workspace with reliable high-speed internet
