Job Title: LVN / LPN – Medical Surgical (GI Overflow Unit)

Location - Rochester, NY

Position Summary

The LVN/LPN will provide direct patient care in a 14-bed overflow Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit designed to accommodate Emergency Department boarder patients. This unit operates as a flexible care space, with census fluctuating based on patient demand. The nurse will deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care while collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary team.


Unit Overview

  • 14-bed Med/Surg Tele overflow unit

  • Flexible census based on patient volume

  • May float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed

  • First-time travelers accepted


Schedule

  • Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

  • Every other weekend required

  • Call requirement dependent on staffing needs

  • Block scheduling may be considered but not guaranteed


Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience

  • Telemetry experience preferred

  • Previous charge experience preferred

  • Experience in Emergency Department setting preferred


Required Certifications

  • BLS (required)

  • Active state LPN/LVN license (required)

  • EPIC experience required


Clinical Skills Required

  • Blood glucose monitoring/testing

  • Feeding tube care and management

  • NG tube / G-tube care

  • Foley catheter insertion (male and female)

  • Medication administration: IM, SQ, oral, subcutaneous

  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face masks)

  • Vital sign monitoring

  • Admission and discharge processes

  • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD

  • Isolation precautions

  • Ambulation and patient mobility assistance

  • Bathing (sitz, tub, bed, shower)

  • Mouth care

  • Eye drops / Ear drops


Communication & Workflow

  • SBAR utilized for Emergency Department patient transfers

  • Verbal report required for other admissions and transfers
