Job Title: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Potsdam, NY 13676
Position Type: Travel Contract (Above 50 Miles)
Duration: 13 Weeks (with possibility to extend)


Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: Night Shift

  • Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts

  • Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

  • Weekends: Every other weekend required


Compensation

  • Travel Pay Rate: $60 – $65 per hour


Job Summary

A hospital in Potsdam, New York is seeking an experienced Travel RN – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) for a mixed-acuity unit caring for PCU/IMC, MS Tele, and Medical-Surgical patients. The ideal candidate must have recent PCU/IMC experience within the last three years and be comfortable managing a diverse patient population in a fast-paced environment.


Unit Overview

  • Mixed-acuity unit: PCU / IMC / Stepdown, MS Tele, and Medical-Surgical patients

  • Surgical and medical overflow patients

  • Occasional pediatric patients (travelers assigned only if experienced)


Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience

  • Recent PCU / IMC experience within the last 3 years (required)


Required Skills & Competencies

  • MS/Tele and Telemetry monitoring

  • Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias

  • Post–myocardial infarction care

  • IV insulin protocols and insulin drip titration

  • Feeding tube care and management

  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)

  • Renal failure management

  • Central line care and blood product administration

  • Phlebotomy and IV access (peripheral, PICC, ports)

  • Heparin protocols and cardiac drips (titration as applicable)

  • PCA management and thrombolytic therapy

  • Neurological care: CVA, seizure disorders, substance withdrawal

  • Orthopedic and trauma care, including total joint replacements and traction

  • Chest tube management (Emerson / Pleur-evac)

  • Respiratory support: CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, oxygen delivery devices

  • ABG interpretation and non-invasive airway management

  • Tracheostomy care

  • Isolation precautions and wound care (including wound vacs)


Certifications Required

  • BLS (AHA)

  • ACLS (AHA)

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)


Staffing & Unit Details

  • Patient Ratios:

    • Days/Weekends: 1:3–5

    • Nights: 1:3–6

  • Float Requirement: Yes

    • May float to sister units (West 2, West 3, Observation Unit)

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
