Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer to maintain the design, security, and integrity of a large-scale internal network environment. This role focuses on supporting approximately 160 Fortinet devices, including FortiGate firewalls, FortiManager (centralized management), and FortiAnalyzer (logging and analytics), as well as customer-facing hosted and cloud environments.

The Senior Network Engineer will provide expert-level technical support to internal teams, design and implement complex infrastructure solutions, and support business-critical systems. Responsibilities include deploying new firewalls to branch locations and migrating environments from Layer 2 to Layer 3 routing.

As part of the Network Team, this role provides onsite and remote support on a 24x7 basis to customers with critical response-time requirements. The engineer will work independently and collaboratively to resolve ServiceNow tickets, troubleshoot escalated issues, support project initiatives, and assist with deployments and maintenance activities. Flexible work hours are required to support system deployments and troubleshooting.

This role requires demonstrated expertise in securing and managing network infrastructures to protect productivity, mitigate threats, and reduce operational costs.


General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an experienced Network/Security Engineer with strong expertise in FortiGate, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer appliances

  • Apply best practices for Cisco and Fortinet firewall technologies

  • Design, install, and support routing, switching, and security technologies in WAN/LAN environments

  • Collaborate effectively with the internal Network Team

  • Participate in on-call and onsite response activities within defined SLA parameters (up to 3-hour response window) for emergencies and planned maintenance


Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work independently and with approved vendors and partner agencies to resolve network-related issues

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for current network architecture and new installations

  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of connecting public and private networks while ensuring network stability

  • Apply fundamental knowledge of PCI and PII compliance requirements

  • Plan and implement future network installations and perform capacity planning

  • Conduct advanced analysis and troubleshooting of network infrastructure

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members

  • Research and analyze requests related to network issues and resolutions

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

  • Travel between facilities to deploy, maintain, and support network equipment


Qualifications Required at Hire

  • Experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting complex network environments

  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP) in mixed environments

  • Knowledge of VLAN technologies, VTP, and STP protocols

  • Experience with ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi, enterprise wireless, and other network security technologies

  • Solid understanding of network routers and switches

  • Experience with Metro Ethernet technologies

  • Experience using network monitoring and management tools

  • Knowledge of VoIP and QoS technologies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, emergencies, and production needs

  • Working knowledge of statistical methods

  • Fortinet certifications preferred (NSE or FCF, FCA, FCP, FCSS)

  • Extensive experience creating and maintaining network Visio diagrams


Qualifications Acquired on the Job

  • Knowledge of internal policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing assigned activities

  • Familiarity with organizational forms and documentation requirements


Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of full-time professional experience in network design and engineering


Other Requirements

  • Must possess a personal vehicle for travel between facilities
