Position Overview

The Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse provides specialized pre-operative and post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in a high-acuity recovery setting. This role requires strong pediatric critical care experience and the ability to function independently with minimal orientation.


Shift & Scheduling Details

  • Combination of day and evening shifts within the same pay period

  • 8 shifts every 2 weeks (10-hour shifts)

  • Some weekend coverage required

  • No block scheduling


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients in the PACU setting

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments in an acute care environment

  • Monitor post-anesthesia recovery and respond to changes in patient condition

  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care with minimal supervision

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Document care accurately according to professional and regulatory standards


Required Qualifications

  • Active New York State RN license

  • BLS certification (must be current and maintain recertification)

  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent acute care experience (within the past 2 years)

  • Pediatric critical care experience required

  • PACU experience preferred

  • Experience in hospitals of equal or greater size or trauma center environments (required for travelers)


Preferred Skills & Experience

  • EPIC Electronic Medical Records experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced pediatric recovery environment
