The Director of Cardiac Care – Medical Surgical provides strategic and operational leadership for a cardiac-focused medical-surgical unit. This role is responsible for planning, managing, integrating, and coordinating unit operations in alignment with organizational goals related to quality, patient outcomes, leadership excellence, and financial sustainability.
The Director supports the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care through performance improvement initiatives, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective resource utilization across the continuum of care.
Lead departmental performance improvement initiatives and ensure appropriate utilization of resources.
Develop and maintain operational systems that support efficient patient flow across the continuum of care.
Facilitate and support comprehensive education programs for patients and staff.
Collaborate closely with physicians to provide clinical and operational leadership throughout the department.
Evaluate and recommend adoption of new technologies and clinical services.
Partner with interdisciplinary teams using a patient- and family-centered care approach to optimize outcomes.
Coordinate multidisciplinary care conferences for high-risk or medically complex patients.
Lead and support research initiatives in compliance with IRB requirements.
Direct development and execution of short- and long-term strategic programs and project plans aligned with organizational objectives.
Oversee operational efficiency and ensure alignment with broader hospital functions and priorities.
Interview, select, and onboard qualified staff to meet department objectives.
Ensure hiring practices comply with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action standards.
Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to staff and supervisory personnel.
Review and approve staff performance evaluations and manage disciplinary actions as needed.
5+ years of recent (within the last year) acute care RN leadership experience
Bachelor’s Degree (required)
Active licensure as one of the following:
Registered Nurse (RN)
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date)
Oversees a 24-bed cardiac medical-surgical unit
Average daily volume: approximately 18 patients
Manages a team of approximately 27 FTEs
Reports into executive nursing leadership
