A large acute care hospital offering a broad range of medical and surgical services, including emergency care, trauma services, women’s services, cardiovascular care, orthopedics, stroke care, and specialty surgical programs. The organization supports a high-volume Operating Room environment with a strong focus on patient safety, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) delivers high-quality, patient-centered perioperative care in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role supports surgical services through effective patient assessment, preparation, intraoperative care, and interdisciplinary collaboration while adhering to evidence-based practices and safety protocols.
Evaluate patients prior to surgery and assess readiness for operative procedures.
Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and the perioperative process.
Prepare patients for surgery, including IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.
Participate in surgical safety protocols including briefings, time-outs, debriefings, and universal precautions.
Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies.
Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care using evidence-based practices and continuous improvement principles.
Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team including providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.
Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and technical skills to provide independent patient care.
Monitor patient condition throughout the shift and document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately.
Educate patients and caregivers on medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Minimum 1+ year of recent Operating Room RN experience (scrub and/or circulating).
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program (RN Diploma or equivalent).
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start date.
On-call requirements: Covered by a dedicated on-call resource (no routine on-call for this role).
Reports to: Nursing Manager
