Position Title: Administrative Director, Emergency Services

Organization Overview:
A large acute care hospital with 400+ beds, providing a wide range of medical services including cardiology, maternity care, Level III NICU, pediatrics, bariatrics, and neurology. The hospital operates a 24-hour emergency department with Level II Trauma capabilities and is dedicated to delivering patient-centered care through a team of expert physicians, nurses, and support staff.
Job Summary:
The Administrative Director, Emergency Services ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through oversight of multiple sites and/or functional areas. This role fosters a culture of accountability and collaboration, directing the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures in support of organizational objectives.
Major Responsibilities:
Quality
Identify and implement evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and quality outcomes.
Ensure adherence to standards of care and manage variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Maintain compliance with internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, legal, and regulatory standards.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and nursing standards to ensure patient and family needs are met and evaluated.
Lead development and implementation of patient throughput strategies, including capacity planning, volume forecasting, patient flow, and admission/discharge planning.
Service
Provide leadership to achieve and sustain an exceptional patient experience.
Utilize feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and implement strategies to improve patient satisfaction.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices enhancing patient experience.
People
Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
Ensure employees are recognized, supported, and engaged.
Identify development opportunities, provide coaching, and implement training to improve performance.
Attract, develop, and retain talent to ensure the right people are in the right roles.
Growth
Collaborate with leadership to enhance existing services or develop new service offerings.
Identify opportunities for expansion or differentiation in services and product lines.
Monitor external factors, including healthcare trends, reimbursement changes, and legislative developments to position services strategically.
Represent the organization positively in the community and participate in outreach events.
Finance
Participate in departmental budgeting, including revenue, expenses, staffing, and equipment needs.
Monitor budget performance, identify trends, and address performance gaps.
Ensure effective labor management, scheduling, productivity, and cost efficiency.
Manage operating expenses and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to the organization’s Code of Conduct and mission and values.
Education & Experience:
Minimum 3 years of recent acute care Emergency Department Director or Manager experience (Manager considered if in a large ED or specific reporting structure).
BSN required; MSN preferred.
ED Summary:
Approximately 50+ beds in main ED with multiple additional sites.
Level II Trauma capabilities; high trauma volume including penetrating trauma.
80,000+ annual visits across all locations.
Reports to COO; ER Director reports directly to this role.
Manages multiple managers and roughly 150 FTEs.
