Job Summary

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients and newborns in a full-scope Family Birth environment. This role supports labor, delivery, postpartum, nursery, and OB triage services in a Baby-Friendly facility. Nurses are cross-trained across multiple maternal-child care areas and are expected to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with evidence-based practices.


Position Details

  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

  • Schedule: 3×12-hour shifts

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend


Unit Overview

  • Full-scope LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) model

  • Baby-Friendly designated facility

  • Cross-trained nursing model including:

    • Labor & Delivery

    • Circulator role

    • Acute Care Nursery

    • OB Triage

    • Postpartum/Couplet Care

    • GYN surgical patient care

  • Nurses perform newborn hearing screenings


Patient Population & Ratios

  • Labor Patients: 1:1

  • Cytotec Inductions: 1:2

  • Magnesium Patients: 1:1

  • Couplet Care (Mother/Baby): 1:3

  • Sick Nursery Infant: 1:1


Core Responsibilities

  • Provide intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn nursing care

  • Monitor maternal and fetal status during labor and delivery

  • Assist with vaginal and operative deliveries

  • Function as circulator for obstetric procedures

  • Provide acute care nursery and OB triage support

  • Perform newborn hearing screenings

  • Administer medications via automated dispensing systems

  • Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC EMR

  • Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams

  • Float to other maternal-child units or campuses as needed within competency


Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Active RN State License

  • BLS (AHA)

  • ACLS (AHA)

  • NRP

  • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience

  • Experience in LDRP and Baby-Friendly environments preferred

  • EPIC EMR experience required (minimum 1 year)

  • First-time travelers considered based on experience

  • Medication Management: Omnicell

  • Charting System: EPIC
