Mental Health Therapy Aide

Day Shift
3×12-hour shifts
Hours: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Weekend & Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and some holidays required
We are seeking experienced Mental Health Therapy Aides to support a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit. The ideal candidate will have prior inpatient psychiatric experience and demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and patient-care skills. Pediatric experience is preferred.
This role involves providing both direct and indirect patient care in an acute behavioral health setting while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for patients.
Provide direct and indirect patient care under nursing supervision
Take and record vital signs accurately and in a timely manner
Assist with patient admissions, documentation, and physical examinations
Collect specimens and monitor patient intake and output
Transport patients safely within the facility
Orient new patients to unit rules, routines, and expectations
Assist patients with hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs)
Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients
Interact therapeutically with patients during structured and unstructured activities
Intervene appropriately during crisis situations to ensure patient safety
Perform safety checks on assigned shifts
Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive unit environment
Observe, document, and report patient responses to treatments
Communicate patient data clearly and promptly to nursing staff
Participate in unit-based activities and support nursing unit operations
Current CPR certification (required)
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Mental Health Therapy Aide or similar role
Psychiatric experience required
Experience in an inpatient behavioral health setting preferred
Experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations preferred
Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability to function independently with minimal supervision
Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
Ability to apply age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate clinical interventions
Attention to safety, detail, and documentation accuracy
Acute inpatient behavioral health setting
Child and adolescent patient population
