Job Title: Senior Test Automation Engineer – Electronics Validation

Location - Tustin, CA


Schedule

  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday

  • Core Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Lunch: 1-hour non-billable

  • Additional Hours: May ramp up to 50 hours per week during peak workloads

  • Extended Hours: Work may be required as late as 8:00 PM during high-demand periods

  • Work Mode: 100% onsite


Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Test Automation Engineer to support the functional validation and testing of electronic control units (ECUs) across multiple advanced electronic systems. This role focuses on developing custom automated test solutions that integrate software, firmware, instrumentation, and electromechanical hardware for internal and external deployment.

The engineer will collaborate closely with electronics design, validation, reliability, EMC, and product launch teams to ensure robust and scalable test coverage throughout the product lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with electronics design teams to define test requirements and validation strategies

  • Design and develop custom automated test sequences using Python, following software engineering best practices

  • Utilize and extend standardized automation frameworks for test development

  • Create clear, well-documented test cases, procedures, and operating instructions

  • Develop and maintain automated test systems incorporating:

    • Internal-facing software tools

    • Low-level firmware

    • Data management platforms

    • Custom electromechanical test hardware

  • Support cross-functional teams to ensure test solutions meet functional, reliability, EMC, and launch requirements

  • Deploy test solutions for internal use and at external laboratories or manufacturing environments

  • Perform hands-on hardware debugging and root-cause analysis


Required Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Python programming for test automation

  • Mandatory hands-on hardware debugging experience

  • Experience with automation instrumentation, including:

    • Programmable power supplies

    • Digital multimeters (DMMs)

    • Multiplexers

    • Signal analyzers and generators

    • Multifunction data acquisition devices (digital and analog)

  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Electrical schematics and circuit diagrams

    • PCB layouts

    • Manufacturer datasheets

  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols, such as:

    • CAN, CAN-FD

    • DoIP

    • Automotive Ethernet

    • LIN

  • Experience with industrial communication buses and protocols, including:

    • USB, VISA, GPIB

    • Ethernet, Serial, RS-485

    • SPI, I2C


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing automated test equipment (ATE) for electronic systems


Preferred Industry Experience

  • Automotive electronics

  • Semiconductor systems

  • Aerospace or other safety-critical electronics industries
