Job Title: Adult Surgical / Operating Room Technician

Location: Syracuse, NY
Assignment Type: Contract
Duration: 16 Weeks

Schedule Details

  • Shift Type: Evening / Night Coverage

  • Hours: 40 hours per week

  • Hours per Day: 8 hours (with some 12-hour shifts)

  • Days per Week: 5

Shift Patterns May Include:

  • 07:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

  • 03:00 PM – 11:30 PM

  • 07:00 AM – 7:30 PM

  • 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM

(Rotating mix of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts)

Position Overview

A hospital is seeking an experienced Adult Surgical / Operating Room Technician to support a high-volume Downtown Adult Operating Room. The ideal candidate will have strong scrub experience and the ability to function independently in a fast-paced trauma environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scrub duties for a wide range of adult surgical procedures

  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields before, during, and after surgical cases

  • Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments efficiently during procedures

  • Participate in trauma, orthopedic, general, ENT, vascular, GYN, and other specialty cases

  • Ensure compliance with sterile technique, infection control, and OR safety standards

  • Assist with surgical counts (instruments, sponges, sharps)

  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, RNs, anesthesia, and surgical team members

  • Maintain professionalism in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of recent Operating Room experience (within the last 4 years)

  • Experience must be in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center or equivalent acute care facility

  • Strong scrub experience required

  • Experience in multiple specialties, including:

    • Trauma

    • Orthopedics

    • General Surgery

    • ENT

    • Vascular

    • Gynecology

    • Bariatric, GU, or Neurosurgery (preferred)

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • First-time travelers considered only with experience in hospitals of similar size and acuity

Education & Certification

  • Surgical Technologist Certification (CST or equivalent) – Required

  • Must not have any professional license or certification under suspension or investigation

  • Must successfully pass all pre-employment health and compliance requirements
