  • Full-Time: 37.5 hours per week

  • Shift: 3:15 PM – 11:00 PM

  • Days: 5 days per week (some weekends required)

Compensation

  • Maximum Pay Rate: $24/hour (W2)


Job Summary

A healthcare facility is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA) to support inpatient psychiatric services. The PCA will serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team, providing direct patient care, assisting with therapeutic activities, and ensuring patient safety in accordance with established policies and procedures.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient admissions and orientation, including valuables verification and unit familiarization

  • Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care plans

  • Assist in therapeutic interventions and structured patient activities

  • Perform direct patient care tasks, including:

    • Vital signs and health data collection (height, weight, etc.)

    • Assistance with hygiene, feeding, dressing, and mobility

    • Performing EKGs and venipuncture as required

  • Collect and process specimens (blood, urine, sputum) and conduct urine testing

  • Lead or co-lead recreational and therapeutic patient groups

  • Support discharge planning, including transportation coordination and family communication

  • Escort patients for diagnostic testing, court appointments, or approved outings

  • Assist with managing aggressive or violent behavior, including physical restraints per policy

  • Support patients in seclusion/restraint environments as required

  • Initiate CPR and assist nursing staff during emergency response situations

  • Follow infection control standards and maintain a clean, safe environment

  • Manage assigned patient caseloads and provide supportive counseling to patients and families


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in one of the following:

    • Law enforcement

    • Nursing or healthcare

    • Psychiatric/behavioral health

    • Direct work with mental health populations

  • Experience performing venipuncture and EKGs

  • Strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting


Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of relevant full-time experience
    OR

  • Associate’s Degree, preferably in mental health or a related field


Certifications & Background Requirements

  • BLS (American Heart Association) required

  • Certificate of Medical Assistant training required

  • CPI or PMCS certification required

  • Successful completion of SEL and SCR background checks
