Position Overview

A short-term acute care hospital is seeking an experienced Histology Technician to support a high-volume histology laboratory. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy, and be comfortable working independently during overnight hours.


Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum Experience: 2 years (required)

  • First-Time Travelers: Not accepted

  • Weekend Requirement: None

  • On-Call Requirement: No

  • Floating: Not required (no floating within department or to sister facilities)

  • Block Schedule Accommodation: Yes

  • Local Candidates: (100-mile radius restriction)

  • Pending State License: Accepted

  • RTO Restriction: Maximum of 5 days

  • Guaranteed Hours:

    • Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts at any time without penalty

    • On-call hours do not count toward guaranteed minimum hours


Certifications & Licensure

  • National Certification Required: ASCP – HT

  • BLS: Not required


Required Technical Skills

General Histology Skills

  • Tissue processing

Embedding & Microtomy

  • Automated and manual microtome use

  • Cryostat sectioning

  • Cutting tissue sections using microtome and cryostat

  • Precision microtomy

  • Paraffin wax sectioning

  • Cutting blocks

  • Microtomy of fatty and hard tissue

  • Embedding techniques for:

    • GI specimens

    • Large specimens

    • Small and large tissues

    • Skin specimens

    • Molds

  • Histology cassette preparation

Staining Experience

  • Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) staining

  • Slide preparation for staining


Systems Experience

  • Epic / Excellian experience required
