Position Overview
A one-to-one Registered Nurse (RN) is required to support a medically complex and medically fragile student in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The RN will provide continuous health monitoring, skilled nursing care, and respiratory treatments throughout the school day.
The nurse will accompany the student during transportation to and from school and provide direct care support throughout the school environment to ensure student safety, health stability, and access to education.
Provide one-to-one nursing care and continuous health monitoring for a medically fragile student
Administer breathing treatments and other prescribed medical interventions during the school day
Accompany the student during transportation between home and school
Assess student health needs and refer to appropriate specialists when necessary
Administer medications and maintain accurate documentation, including dosages and observed effects
Maintain up-to-date medical records for the student
Communicate health-related information to parents/guardians and appropriate school staff
Assist with medical appointments and serve as a liaison between healthcare providers, family, and school staff
Support emergency response related to student health or accidents
Educate the student on personal hygiene and overall health care as appropriate
Participate in routine screenings and health surveys
Collaborate with instructional staff and residential staff to ensure continuity of care
Participate in training, including sign language instruction if required for student communication
Monday – Friday, school-day hours (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
Fridays have a shortened schedule
Weekly hours will not exceed 40
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of assignment
Current CPR/BLS certification
Active FP-C/FPCC certification
Hepatitis B vaccination
COVID-19 vaccination
Licensed Registered Nurse
Completion of a physical assessment skills course
Eligibility for School Nurse Certification
Current CPR certification
Experience assessing and treating children ages 4 through 22
Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
Injury and health assessment skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
Three or more years of experience in:
Pediatric nursing
Urgent care nursing
Experience working with children with disabilities
Strong physical assessment skills, including sports-related injuries
American Sign Language (ASL) experience preferred
On-the-job training provided either in the student’s home or school setting
Training conducted alongside an experienced RN and/or parent/guardian
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Safety-sensitive position:
Pre-employment drug screening required
Subject to random drug testing throughout assignment
