Pay Rate: Local: $60–$65/hour | Travel: $67–$72/hour
Position Summary:
"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Step-Down Care Unit (SCU). The RN SCU provides high-quality nursing care to patients requiring intermediate-level monitoring between ICU and medical-surgical units. This includes caring for post-cardiac and post-surgical patients, managing telemetry, and supporting patients transitioning from critical care. The role operates in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Deliver direct nursing care to SCU patients with intermediate acuity needs
Monitor and interpret telemetry and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
Care for post-cardiac and post-surgical patients, including recovery and stabilization
Administer medications safely following physician orders and hospital protocols
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately
Collaborate with cardiology, physicians, and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate care
Support stable ventilator weans and assist respiratory therapy as needed
Utilize monitoring systems to manage alarms appropriately
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, recovery, and discharge preparation
Maintain a safe environment following infection control and patient safety standards
Demonstrate strong organizational and multitasking skills in a high-census unit
Provide thorough handoff reports to ensure continuity of care during shift changes
Qualifications:
Active RN license in New York (or compact license, if applicable)
1–2 years recent acute care experience, preferably in Step-Down (SCU), Telemetry, Cardiac, or ICU settings
Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and interpretation
Experience caring for post-cardiac and post-surgical patients
Familiarity with stable ventilator weaning and intermediate-acuity patient care
Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
Ability to work night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in a fast-paced, high-census environment
Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and assessment skills
Excellent communication, time management, and multitasking abilities
Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
Comfortable using EMR systems, Pyxis, and patient monitoring technologies
