Job Description – RN (Vascular Access Team)

Location: Ithaca, NY 14850
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Day Shift | 3×12 hrs | 36 hrs/week

Job Summary

The RN – Vascular Access Team is responsible for performing specialized vascular access procedures, including inserting PICC lines, Midlines, and ultrasound-guided IVs for patients with difficult venous access. The nurse will work independently while collaborating closely with providers, clinical staff, and patients to ensure high-quality vascular access services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients requiring vascular access.

  • Insert PICC lines, Midlines, and Ultrasound-Guided IVs using evidence-based techniques.

  • Provide consultation and assessment for vascular access needs based on patient condition and clinical indications.

  • Utilize a collaborative team approach when coordinating and implementing vascular access procedures.

  • Document all assessments, procedures, and outcomes accurately in EMR systems.

  • Participate in training and education of clinical staff regarding IV access, products, and best practices.

  • Work independently while maintaining strong clinical judgment and prioritization skills.

  • Review patient charts and conduct patient interviews to determine optimal vascular access strategy.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Education: Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of med/surg nursing experience AND 1 year of vascular access experience.

  • Licensure: Active New York RN license.

  • Strong ability to assess vascular access needs and perform device insertions safely and effectively.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience responding to vascular access consultations.

  • Ability to assess need for IV access, products, and procedures.

  • Strong assessment, interviewing, and documentation skills.
