A professional organization is seeking an Art Inventory Assistant to support a short-term project involving cataloging, photographing, and handling artwork items. This role requires careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work safely around fragile, high-value objects.
Safely handle artwork using proper fine art handling techniques.
Record detailed object information such as:
Title
Artist
Dimensions
Medium
Acquisition numbers
Current condition
Photograph artwork following specific project guidelines and attach images to digital records.
Apply permanent inventory tags or labels to items or shelving when instructed.
Identify and report damaged, misidentified, or inaccurately cataloged items to the project lead.
Follow all security, confidentiality, and environmental safety protocols.
Assist with organizing and maintaining inventory materials throughout the project.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
Comfortable working around fragile, valuable, or delicate objects.
Ability to lift/move items up to 30 lbs as needed.
Basic computer skills; familiarity with spreadsheets or databases is a plus.
Prior experience in museums, galleries, archives, or art handling is preferred but not required (training provided).
Strong professionalism, reliability, and discretion.
Must be able to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
May require working on ladders or step stools under supervision.
