Job Title: Patient Care Associate – Labor & Delivery
Location: Brooklyn, NY 11206
Shift: 11:30 PM – 8:00 AM
Pay Rate: $25–$28 per hour (W2)
A healthcare facility in Brooklyn is seeking a Patient Care Associate to support the Labor & Delivery unit. Under the direct supervision of licensed nursing or professional medical staff, the PCA will perform a combination of clerical duties and hands-on patient care tasks to ensure safe and efficient operations within the department. Client name is intentionally omitted to protect confidentiality.
Check vital signs, weigh and measure patients, obtain specimens, and document findings.
Provide instructions to patients for specimen collection and perform basic screening tests (dipstick, hemocult).
Prepare and label specimens for lab pick-up and retrieve lab results.
Perform vision and hearing tests and simple urinalysis.
Administer emergency first aid, including basic life support.
Provide simple wound care (dressing changes, bandaging, cleansing, ear irrigation).
Prepare patients for examinations and assist medical providers during exams.
Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain exam room readiness.
Educate patients on preparation for medical tests.
Conduct patient intake interviews to collect routine personal and medical history.
Maintain, process, and file patient charts, forms, and related documentation.
Report patient observations to medical staff.
Answer patient inquiries in person or by phone and provide appropriate referrals.
Support patient and family education regarding health services and safe living.
Maintain unit inventory of equipment and supplies.
Collaborate as part of the care team and assist in orienting new staff.
Escort and transport patients to other departments or facilities.
Coordinate scheduling and rebooking of appointments using manual or electronic systems; update patient information in hospital data systems.
Perform venipuncture and fingerstick procedures to obtain blood specimens.
Operate EKG equipment to record heart electrical activity.
Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience – Required
Strong clinical, communication, and patient-focused skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
High school diploma or equivalent recognized by a state Department of Education or accrediting body
Completion of a NYS Department of Health–approved Phlebotomy training program
Completion of a healthcare-based training program in electrocardiograph procedures and basic life support
Current CPR certification
