Position Overview

The Neonatal ICU Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill newborns. This role requires strong neonatal clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond rapidly to changes in patient condition. The RN collaborates with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary NICU team to deliver safe, evidence-based, family-centered care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature and critically ill neonates.

  • Perform detailed assessments and continuously monitor patient status.

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and neonatal-specific treatments.

  • Assist with neonatal procedures and provide conscious sedation as required.

  • Insert IV lines and perform neonatal phlebotomy.

  • Respond promptly to clinical changes and participate in emergency interventions.

  • Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the EMR.

  • Support and educate families regarding patient condition and care plans.

  • Follow NICU protocols, infection prevention standards, and safety guidelines.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and coordinate individualized plans of care.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Maternal & Child Health experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of IV insertion and phlebotomy experience.

  • Minimum 2 years of conscious sedation experience.


Education

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN or ADN) from an accredited nursing program.


Certifications & Licensure

  • Active New York State RN license.

  • Primary Source Verification from the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

  • AHA BLS certification.

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
