Job Title: Special Education Coordinator – SPED / High School

Location: Ashburn, Leesburg, Sterling, Purcellville, Reston, Herndon, Vienna, Round Hill, Aldie – Virginia
Rate: $25–$27 per hour
Shift: Day Shift
Duration: 6 Months

Summary

The Special Education Coordinator supports and manages high school special education programs, ensuring that students with disabilities receive appropriate services, accommodations, and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in alignment with federal and state regulations. This role collaborates closely with teachers, staff, families, and outside providers to uphold compliance, promote academic success, and support student behavioral and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply specialized SPED experience in managing and supporting high school–level special education programs.

  • Utilize prior high school teaching experience to guide instructional strategies, accommodations, and curriculum alignment.

  • Leverage Behavioral Training expertise to support behavior plans, interventions, and crisis management strategies.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, psychologists, administrators, and families to support academic and behavioral progress.

  • Provide instructional guidance to teachers on modifications, accommodations, and individualized supports.

  • Monitor the delivery of special education services and ensure compliance with IEP requirements.

  • Support evaluation and re-evaluation processes, ensuring timely completion and documentation.

  • Train and support staff on special education policies, compliance standards, and best practices for student support.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families, district staff, and school leadership regarding SPED programs and student needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification (state-specific requirements apply).

  • Behavioral Training experience.

  • Experience working with students with disabilities such as ESE, ASD, IDD, or those with behavioral or emotional needs.

  • Strong understanding of IEP development, compliance requirements, and high school curriculum standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating special education programs across multiple grade levels, classrooms, or schools.

  • Strong skills in data-driven educational planning and progress monitoring.

  • Experience supporting teachers through coaching, training, or SPED program development.
