Job Description – Registered Nurse (RN)

Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Unit

Location: Pikeville, KY 
Shift Options: Days or Nights

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and comprehensive nursing care to adult patients on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. This role requires strong clinical judgment, proficiency in cardiac monitoring, the ability to manage diverse patient populations, and effective communication within a fast-paced acute care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients requiring medical-surgical and telemetry monitoring.

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize abnormalities, and escalate concerns promptly.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies per provider orders.

  • Manage complex patient care plans and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Respond promptly to changes in patient conditions and initiate appropriate interventions.

  • Operate and interpret telemetry equipment effectively.

  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and discharge instructions.

  • Ensure patient safety standards and infection control policies are followed at all times.

  • Participate in bedside shift reports and handoffs to ensure continuity of care.

  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted RN license.

  • Minimum 1–2 years of recent Med-Surg/Telemetry experience required.

  • Strong competency with cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation.

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.

  • Experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

  • Ability to work 48-hour weekly schedules, including potential weekends and holidays.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior travel nursing experience.

  • Experience in high-acuity or fast-paced hospital settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and adapt to changing patient needs.
