The Patient Care Associate (PCA) provides essential support to licensed nursing staff by assisting patients with daily activities, monitoring vital signs, and helping maintain a safe and comfortable care environment. This role requires compassion, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare setting.
Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding
Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiration
Support patient mobility, including ambulation, transfers, and repositioning
Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly
Respond to call lights and patient needs in a timely, professional manner
Assist nursing staff with specimen collection and basic equipment setup
Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked patient rooms
Accurately document patient care activities in electronic or paper records
Follow infection-control guidelines and safety procedures at all times
Provide emotional support to patients and their families
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification as a Patient Care Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or equivalent (varies by facility)
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or required
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
Ability to safely lift, move, and assist patients as needed
