Infrastructure Capacity Planner

The Infrastructure Capacity Planner will ensure that enterprise technology platforms can scale predictably, securely, and cost-effectively to meet the demands of modern banking. This includes supporting real-time payment processing, end-of-day settlement, liquidity management, risk systems, and rapidly growing digital channels.

The role requires strong analytical capabilities, a deep understanding of banking infrastructure, and the ability to balance operational performance with compliance and resiliency requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain capacity models across compute, storage, and network layers, incorporating growth forecasts, seasonal load spikes (e.g., quarter-end reporting, ACH deadlines), and disaster recovery scenarios.
  • Monitor utilization and performance trends across mainframe, distributed, and cloud platforms, identifying bottlenecks before they impact mission-critical financial services.
  • Collaborate with platform owners and infrastructure engineering teams to define scaling strategies that align with modernization roadmaps (e.g., mainframe offload to Azure or hybrid compute models).
  • Integrate capacity planning with business continuity and resiliency strategies, ensuring that planned growth supports RTO/RPO targets and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct “what-if” scenario modeling to account for changes in transaction volume, new service launches (e.g., instant payments), or compliance mandates.
  • Partner with finance and procurement to align infrastructure costs with budget forecasts and capital expenditure strategies.
  • Ensure capacity plans and scaling strategies are documented and auditable for regulatory review and internal controls.
  • Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure planned infrastructure growth adheres to FFIEC and NYDFS operational resilience guidelines.

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience in capacity planning or infrastructure engineering in large financial institutions.
  • Proficiency with capacity planning and monitoring tools (e.g., BMC TrueSight, VMware vRealize, Dynatrace, Splunk, Azure Monitor).
  • Strong knowledge of banking infrastructure environments — including mainframe, on-prem, and cloud-hybrid topologies.
  • Experience forecasting workloads for high-volume transaction systems, including ACH, Fedwire, Zelle, and card payment networks.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and resiliency requirements (FFIEC, OCC, NYDFS).
  • Excellent quantitative analysis and financial modeling skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation capabilities for executive and audit reporting.
