Job Title: Teacher Assistant
Location: Leesburg, VA
Duration: 7+ Months (with possible extension)
Shift Timing: 8:30 AM – 3:45 PM (Monday – Friday)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Teacher Assistant to provide classroom and instructional support to educators in a school setting. This role assists teachers in implementing lesson plans, supporting student learning, and maintaining a positive and safe classroom environment. Assignments may be in general education or special education classrooms, depending on student and program needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead teacher in daily classroom activities, including lesson preparation, materials setup, and student supervision.

  • Provide one-on-one or small group academic assistance to reinforce learning concepts and develop students’ language, cognitive, and motor skills.

  • Monitor student behavior and safety in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeterias, and during transportation transitions.

  • Assist with behavior management and individualized student support plans as directed by the teacher or school team.

  • Perform general clerical duties such as attendance tracking, organizing learning materials, preparing displays, operating classroom technology, and assisting with school events or field trips.

  • In special education environments, provide physical and personal care support (mobility, toileting, feeding, or seizure monitoring) as required under supervision.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to promote student engagement and inclusion.

  • Participate in professional development sessions and required training for educational support staff.

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school and district policies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.

  • Special Education Support: Experience working with students who have disabilities or behavioral challenges is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage positively with students and staff.

  • Ability to follow lesson plans and teacher instructions accurately.

  • Patience, empathy, and flexibility in responding to diverse classroom needs.

  • Basic proficiency with computers and classroom technology (e.g., SMART Boards, projectors, digital attendance systems).

  • Physical stamina to assist students as needed (lifting or positioning).

Physical & Working Conditions:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 25–50 lbs occasionally).

  • Work performed primarily in classrooms, school facilities, and outdoor school areas.

  • Schedule aligned with the academic calendar; may include early dismissal or professional development days.
