Job Title: Surgical Coordinator
Location: New York, NY 10029
Duration: 3+ Months (with possible extension)
Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgical Coordinator to support the efficient scheduling and coordination of surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will ensure smooth communication between physicians, staff, and patients while maintaining high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and patient service.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate all operating room (OR) surgeries and procedures efficiently.
Oversee front office workflow and adjust operations to maintain timely and effective service delivery.
Verify patient demographics and obtain pre-certifications from insurance providers for all surgeries and procedures.
Obtain medical clearance documentation for patients prior to surgery.
Address patient inquiries and resolve issues in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
Place surgical confirmation calls one day prior to scheduled surgeries or procedures.
Schedule post-operative follow-up visits with healthcare providers.
Serve as a liaison between referring physicians and surgeons for communication of clinical information and OR scheduling.
Train and mentor new or less experienced scheduling staff.
Prepare and distribute necessary paperwork to internal and external teams to ensure all aspects of surgery coordination are completed.
Record hospital reservations and pre-admission data in the electronic health record system (e.g., Cerner).
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of surgical scheduling experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent customer service abilities with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
High school diploma required.
Associate degree preferred.
Certificate in Medical Terminology preferred.
Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree.
Certification in Medical Technology.
Certificate in ICD-9 and CPT Coding.
