Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Wound Care
Location: Brooklyn, NY 11206
Duration - 3 Months
The Wound Care Nurse is responsible for conducting health assessments, developing individualized care plans, and providing specialized care for patients with wounds, ostomies, and continence needs. This role includes patient education, staff training, interdisciplinary collaboration, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
Conduct health assessments focused on wound, ostomy, and continence care.
Perform focused physical assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
Recommend medications and treatments as appropriate.
Develop, revise, and evaluate standards of wound care; assist in supply/equipment selection.
Assess and document patient response to treatments, including fistula and complex wounds.
Collaborate with the healthcare team and make referrals as appropriate.
Provide patient and family education on prevention of wound-related complications.
Develop and evaluate staff education programs, including orientation and continuing education.
Perform comprehensive risk assessments for pressure injuries and initiate preventative measures.
Escalate and communicate ethical or conflict resolution issues to leadership.
Collaborate with Assistant Director of Nursing for Wound Care to recommend best practices.
Participate in Quality Improvement activities, including Incidence/Prevalence studies.
Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information.
Engage in professional development to maintain competency in wound care nursing.
Identify and coordinate community resources for patients.
Manage assets related to specialized rented equipment (e.g., specialty beds, negative pressure devices).
Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience.
Wound and colostomy care experience required.
Required Education:
Associate Degree (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
Required Licensure & Certifications:
Active New York State RN License.
Primary source verification of license via NYSED.
AHA BLS certification.
One of the following wound care certifications:
Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) – WOCNCB
Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) – WOCNCB
Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) – WOCNCB
Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) – ABWM
Wound Care Certified (WCC) – NAWCO
Preferred Education/Certifications:
None specified.
Hours per Week: 40.00
Hours per Day: 8.00 – 10.00 (flex)
Days per Week: 5.00
Shift Time: 9:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Notes: Must be wound care certified. Flex 10-hour shifts required. Alternate weekends required.
