Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location - New York City, NY 10019
Duration: 2 Months
Shift Timing: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (Monday – Friday)
Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include: performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exams, etc.
Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and/or families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
General office/clinical environment.
Strenuous physical activity (e.g., frequent and sustained lifting, carrying, etc.).
Clerical responsibilities as assigned, including sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, referral information, hospital notes, completing forms and requisitions, managing charts, and ensuring information is completed and filed appropriately using the EMR system or manually as necessary.
Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
Set up examination rooms and instruments in accordance with sterilization and infection control policies.
Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, sterilization process, crash cart, and point-of-care testing as required.
Check expiration dates on medications and supplies; dispose of expired items per policy.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and complying with legal regulations.
Comply with established PPE requirements for protection against exposure to infectious body fluids, disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
Assist in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, test results, reports, home care forms).
May schedule surgeries/procedures in coordination with the Surgical Coordinator, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms.
May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
May handle appointment scheduling, registration, and updates to patient demographic/insurance information.
May verify insurance information using internal systems or web sources.
May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MS Office Suite
Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-diverse patients.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent telephone etiquette.
Proficiency in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
Knowledge of EMR or billing systems preferred (not required).
Adaptability to a growing and changing environment.
High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
BLS certification (AHA required).
Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
