The Patient Care Technician is responsible for assisting registered professional nurses in delivering safe and effective care to patients. The role involves performing a variety of clinical and support functions as outlined below.
Welcome patients and verify identification bracelets.
Prepare patients for assessments, physical examinations, and procedures.
Draw intravenous or capillary blood using proper aseptic technique for all age groups.
Perform EKGs as directed.
Ensure equipment is present, functional, and clean.
Assist in transporting patients to various departments or units.
Support patients during meals or feed as necessary.
Check and restock inventory as needed.
Prepare room environments for new admissions.
Provide hygiene and comfort care, including bathing, oral care, bed making, and toileting.
Record vital signs on admission and alert the RN of abnormal results.
Perform and document blood glucose tests and collect specimens as instructed.
Monitor and record daily patient weights and intake/output.
Respond promptly to call lights and report changes in patient conditions to the RN.
Deliver care tailored to the specific needs of patients (age, culture, language, etc.).
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams.
Minimum of 1 year experience as a PCT or CNA in a hospital setting is strongly preferred.
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of a Patient Care Technician Program.

Phlebotomy Course Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
